What changed in marketing hiring this year

I will speak about the field I actually work in rather than making predictions about yours.

The brief that used to take a junior a full day now takes an hour. That is real and it is not coming - it arrived. What people got wrong is the conclusion. The job did not disappear. What disappeared was the part of the job that was proof you had learned it.

That is the uncomfortable bit. Producing the work was how a junior earned the judgement. Take away the producing and the ladder loses its bottom rung - not because there is no work, but because there is no longer an obvious way to show you can do it.

Which means the thing worth building now is not speed. It is taste, and evidence of it. Not "I can write the thing" - everyone can write the thing. "I can tell you which of these four is right for this business, and why the other three are not."

In your field: what part of the job used to be your proof, and is it still?
